We have a new location! Walker Creek Ranch is 20 miles outside of Petaluma, CA and it so SO lovely, with it's swimming, canoeing and hiking offerings. Fabulosa Fest is now a full-fledged non-profit women-centered arts and music RETREAT. We provide camping, bunk house and private room options for festival attendees and there is a cafe (stocked from the organic garden!) that will serve us healthy meals (with vegan and gluten-free options!). We are so happy to find this amazing place! More updates coming soon!

Collective Update - 7/23/09

Wow! Fabulosa Fest 2009 was amazing! We're still reeling from the good times in and out of the pool and the incredible performances and the Oldies Soul Crush party and the impromptu jam sessions and the chill times in the Healing Tent and... and.. and... One of many best moments came during the film fest when everyone was laughing so hard during the Carole & Mitzi movie that locals could hear it way up the street.
The Fabulosa Collective is meeting (during Homo A Go Go!) to hear a report of how much money we raised for this year's charities. We'll update this site as soon as we know.
Special Thank Yous to Womengig.com, Cindy Buck Presents, Site and Sound, Mary A. and the Guerneville Sisters, Betty's List and so many others are due and payable with unlimited hugs in the future. Thank you volunteers, performers, craftspeople and attendees alike for helping us build a special event. We're still learning how to do things better and we hope you'll chime in with suggestions. xxxFab Crew

Collective Update - 7/12/09

What to bring (Fabulosa Survival Kit):
We advise that you bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a bathing suit & towel, a blanket to sit or lie on, CASH for entrance, the bar, food and merchandise, some people bring lawn or camping chairs. We hope everyone brings an open, positive attitude. NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL allowed per our liquor license. Unfortunately we have to be REALLY strict about this to keep the event going.

We've updated our "lodging" page with more camping info!

Fabulosa 2009 is fast approaching! Expect to have a wonderful time swimming in the gorgeous pool, dancing, being entertained, buying unique and affordable craft items, getting massages, reiki, energy healing and nutrition advice and allowing the lively bar crew of SF's most diverse dive bar, El Rio, to serve you delicious, fruity and refreshing cocktails and non-alcoholic fruit infused creations. The fest provides the perfect opportunity to meet new and old friends, surrounded by the beautiful wooded area. There’s even a large Jacuzzi!!

See you in Guerneville!

Collective Update - 4/23/09

FABULOSA Fest 2009 tickets are on sale now! See our ticket page for info. We strongly encourage you to buy TICKETS and reserve rooms and campsites NOW. There is a marathon happening that weekend as well and it's going to be "cracking" in Sonoma County.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Fabulita to raise money for the FABULOSA permits! We had an amazing time and were so happy to find out how excited people are for 2009's women-in-the-woods-a-thon. Thank you DJ Venus in Furs, The Pick-Up Pattern, Audrey Howard and the Misters, Leyna Noel and Jenny Hoyston for donating your time and talent.

There is another Fabulita happening at El Rio on Saturday May 9. Come and check out live performances by Karma, Chantelle Tibbs, Angela Chase and more. We're 1/3 of the way to covering our permitting costs for the festival.

Collective Update - 10/28/08

Fabulosa Fest 2008 raised $1000 for Communities United Against Violence, Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits and the Guerneville chapter of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence charity efforts. Though turnout was quite small for the first of our Fabulosa Collective’s women-centered fests, we plan to curate an increasingly impressive program and hope for increasingly larger turnouts (and larger proceeds for these charities).

We have planned several smaller fundraisers to offset the costs of Fabulosa Fest (insurance and permits are very expensive). These fundraisers will be held outdoors on the lovely patio at El Rio in San Francisco on 3 Saturday afternoons this spring and summer. The dates are:

Fabulita 1 – Saturday April 11, 2009

Fabulita 2 – Saturday May 9, 2009

Fabulita 3 – Saturday June 13, 2009

If you would like to be involved in performing or promoting these smaller fundraisers, get in touch with Dawn at elriosf@gmail.com. Get involved in our community!

Collective Update - 10/15/08

Oh, good people involved with FABULOSA Fest 2008, Thank You! Thank You to the bands, DJ’s, performers, venues, volunteers, stage, audio and film techs, bar and BBQ staff, crafts people and filmmakers. Thank you to all of our old and new friends. We felt your love, your enthusiasm and your desire for us to continue in the future. Thank You for trusting us in our attempt to create a new and progressive fundraising festival for our community. You beautiful, dear people have given us the inspiration to move on to round two. We’ve caught up on sleep and are ready to begin planning Fabulosa Fest 2009. In the next week, we will send out a message to everyone on our email list. We have a few questions for people who participated in our first effort and will make adjustments when planning Fabulosa Fest 2009 based on your feedback. You are welcome and encouraged to pass on our email address (fabulosafest@gmail.com) to other current and future participants who should be included in our discussion. We are also adding an email list sign-up function to our MySpace page and official website. We are collective in our planning and appreciate everyone's thoughts on what worked, what didn’t work and what you would like to see in the future.
Thank You for such a lovely welcome!
Love,
Your Fab Crew (Jenny, Judea, Dawn and the rest)

Collective Update - 8/27/08

We have been working on FABULOSA Fest since The Russian River Women's Weekend which we all attended and quite possibly had a little too much fun at. We've taken so much inspiration from all the wonderful women's music festivals, lesbian music festivals and Ladyfests that have happened over the years. We also send love to our queer brothers at Lazy Bear Weekend who have inspired us greatly. We respect those industrious folks who have shown us how women and queer people can make wonderful events happen.

To our dear friends who have volunteered to work, spread the word, create our lovely website... ...we love you, thank you!

To this year's performers, you all rock. The fact that you are giving your time shows the spirit of your character.

To those of you who have already bought TICKETS and those of you who plan to attend this landmark event, thank you. You are showing your community spirit by supporting a project whose sole purpose is to throw a community-building party while supporting wonderful not-for-profit groups that support our beautiful community. Thank YOU!
